Typically, landscape solar lights come with a self contained panel system. Often the panel is blended in to the top of the light, but different designs can be found. It is recommend that you also pick a product that takes rechargeable batteries. On rainy or extremely cloudy days, you’ll need the battery backup.

The next step in selecting solar lights is to try to get a feel for how much light they put out. Cheap solar lights can emit a shockingly small amount of light. You want to select lights that have LED technology and the highest wattage output possible. Landscape solar lights are great, but not if you need 300 to light up an area.

Once you purchase the lights, you more or less head home and start sticking them in the ground. You can purchase interconnected lighting systems, but individual lights are better. You simply figure out where you want things in you yard and plant a solar light in each area. The process is super simple and super quick.

Once your lights are set up, there are a couple of things to keep in mind. Dirty solar panels do not create much electricity. You should plan on wiping off the panels every so often. If you’re lights are dim, they are not broken. They are dirty.
