Is Global Warming Causing Higher Sea Levels or are Rises Normal with Climate Cycles?

By L. Winslow

Global Warming Alarmists and Hollywood Movie writers love to scare the masses and yes it is entertaining to watch Cataclysmic Events on the Silver Screen, but is any of this bathed in any sense of reality? Is Global Warming [mankind's CO2 emissions] causing higher sea levels or are rises in sea level simply normal with the Earth's natural climate cycles?

Well, we know that the oceans have been both lower and higher, due to the seashell fossil record and our knowledge of plate tectonics. So of course, the sea will rise and fall due to Earth Cycles, closely passing Meteors, Comets of ice, etc. It seems in many places along the CA coastline and inland areas that the fossils seem to indicate 92 feet above sea level is where the water once was.

Yes, some could be plate tectonic up-rising, but much of the fossil record seems to indicate a much higher sea. If you look at Central Valley, CA, the Bay Area in California, you can see it on Satellite Maps, it seems rather obvious. But then there have been times of lower level waters some 400 feet less, look at some of the Channel Islands in CA where Woolley Mammoth bones in tact were found, sure they could have swam but not 25 miles in the ocean, they obviously walked.

The record in the Puget Sound area indeed seems to indicate this, as well as much of East Coast, but in the next 500 years are we really worried - scientists now say that we might get a 3-foot rise in sea level over the next 150 years? Should we be worried? No, this is in the realm of expectations based on the fossil record.

What about areas that are losing land mass to the slight rise in sea level - Bangladesh is significant and so is the West Mid-Coast of South America. There are places where it is more critical than others, a big problem as many seem to elude too, will this affect people inland as far as 15 to 35 miles? If so that is where a huge amount of the US population lives. Look at LA, SF, Boston, NY, Philly, DC, Miami, J-Ville, Tampa, Seattle, Houston, and that is just the big cities.  Low lying islands are serious, yes it is concerning, well if any of this Global Warming scare tactics is real.

Is a 1 to 3 foot rise in sea level in the next 150 years that serious? Well in some places it could be for instance in California or Florida where it is flat along the coast line. Personally in California, I worry about SFO airport, the runway is below sea level. In San Jose, the ground water starts at 4-7 feet. In places like Louisiana, Houston, Corpus Christi, Galveston, Biloxi, Gulf Port, Mobile, Pensacola, Na'arlens are not looking so good.

What about drainage of waste water? Yes, this is a huge issue, it backs up run off, creates entirely new issues, especially POTWs. What about Farming, as Salt Water intrusion is huge, it means much of the best farmland is worthless, I have studied the saltwater intrusion issues in many states, In CA it is a huge issue in Ventura County, Central Valley, etc. If you look at Brownsville, Florida Citrus Farmers, NJ, MA, NC, SC, GA, it is a real concern. Think on it, but think beyond the mass media scare game.
